With awareness of our breath, feel it as it moves in and out of our body. I want to talk this morning about learning curves. I am over 70 years old. I have assumed learning curves would happen in my life only when I was growing through my childhood, into adulthood and then they stop when I reached the ripe age of elderly because I am used to living. That is totally not true. Having just relocated, learning curves happen all the time and they are uncomfortable.
Life can be very challenging. However, there are incredible gifts in learning curves. I have been learning from people in my community, as I witness their demeanor and their story.
Everyone has a choice to glean gifts through their life journey as they unwrap their experiences and discover lessons learned. Others fight against their journey, resist and blame, as they struggle through their life’s journey. It is all a choice, but eventually we do learn.
At the same time, I bring awareness to the power of communication because communication allows me to get to know people. Communication allows me to share my story, listen to other stories, listening, feeling and growing with this new community. Everything we learn adds to our toolbelt of understanding.
I work with people who are in Hospice and the gift of communication is so important on so many levels. Whether I am there in person or convey support through other means, taking the time to pass on support through speaking, texting, email, or snail mail, it makes a huge difference in someone’s life who is experiencing deep emotional loss and grief. Taking the time can make a life and death difference to someone in need.
I wish you well. The power of sitting in silence can offer each of us respite. I wish you well in your choices.
