Living from the Inside Out Not the Outside In
As I listen to my breathing, I remind myself I choose to live from the inside out rather than the outside in. It is so easy to get caught up in the outside world as it deteriorates. It’s so easy to get caught up in the frustrations I hear others express. It’s so easy to give my heart away to suffering. And then I remember with an inbreath, to bring myself back to my inside. What do I need? What do I feel? Listen. I listen to calming music and it soothes me. I remind myself how important boundaries are. I can care about others, but I do not give my heart away. Sitting in silence reminds me to be within and not without.
I offer this beautiful poem by~ Jan Richardson, "Blessing in the Chaos" in THE CURE FOR SORROW
To all that is chaotic in you,
let there come silence.
Let there be a calming
of the clamoring,
a stilling
of the voices that
have laid their claim on you,
that have made their home in you,
that go with you
even to the holy places
but will not
let you rest....
Let there be
an opening
into the quiet
that lies beneath the chaos,
where you find the peace
you did not think possible
and see what shimmers
within the storm.
